The EMS
Kindergarten program is taught by a certified teacher and is a state recognized
Kindergarten program. Children who attend the Kindergarten program will
have a unique chance to continue their appreciation and understanding of
the environment around them and to be challenged and stimulated
academically. With the advantage of a low student to teacher ratio, the
student is not hindered by the progress of other students in the
classroom. Thus, the EMS Kindergarten Program provides an exceptional
foundation to meet the academic challenges of the years to come. Some of
the concepts taught are letter sound relationships, putting
sounds together to form words, short and long vowels, blends, from words
to sentences, reading short phonetic word stories, number relationships,
recognizing and identifying numbers to 100, addition and subtraction,
time, money, science, social studies and map studies. Many students
enrolled in this program will be introduced to concepts taught in first
grade. Students also participate in a daily 30-minute lesson taught by a
certified naturalist from the EEC.

The Kindergarten
Extension program allows a parent to extend their child’s Kindergarten
class to 2:30 pm 1 or 2 days per week. The children will have the
opportunity to continue their kindergarten academics and activities from
the morning. They will also participate in a half-hour lesson taught by
the Naturalist. This program helps introduce the child to the longer day
first grade students have. Class starts at 12:30. Children will spend
the first half-hour eating lunch and participating in the Nature and
Activities program. This will give them a chance to unwind and relax
from the morning program. The Extension program will start at 12:30 and
end at 2:30.

The Kindergarten
Enrichment program was developed at the parents' request. Parents were
concerned their child would not be utilizing all the skills they had
learned at the EMS if their child attended other kindergarten programs.
The program is offered Tuesdays and
Thursdays in the afternoon for approximately two hours. Students also
participate in a 30-minute lesson taught by a certified naturalist from
the EEC. Children receive specialized attention from their teacher and are
encouraged to progress as far as they choose. Some of the concepts their teacher reviews are letter sound relationships, putting sounds together to
form words, short and long vowels, blends, from words to sentences,
reading short phonetic word stories, number relationships, recognizing
and identifying numbers to 100, addition and subtraction, time, money,
science, social studies and map studies. Many students enrolled in this
program will be introduced to concepts taught in first
grade.

EMS to 2:30 pm. The program runs 3 days a week, starts in October and is
open to the older students.
The children, who attend this program work on art projects, exercise, go
for nature walks and have the opportunity to socialize with the other
students. Students also participate in a 30-minute lesson taught by a
certified naturalist from the EEC. Parents must provide a full lunch.
Once a month a schedule of the days the program will be available will
be sent home to parents. Parents may pre- register and pay for any or
all days they would like their child to attend the program. You can also
