9:00 - 9:30
Children are greeted at the door by the morning greeter, settle in watch an educational video or choose from the various activities located throughout the classroom. The entire group then recites the pledge of allegiance, sing My Country Tis of Thee and the EMS good morning song. We review the calendar, chart the weather and discuss current events.
9:30 -10:00
A certified Naturalist from the Environmental Education Center visits daily with all the children for approximately a half hour. The Naturalist develops and implements nature education lessons and activities that are taught to the children. The naturalist and teachers frequently take the children on nature walks through the 430-acre nature preserve.
10:00 - 11:00
The children break into their assigned groups. Group lessons are given at this time and individual activities geared to the childs ability are also assigned and supervised by the teacher. When group lessons are finished children may explore and choose educational and fun activities located in their area.
11:00 - 11:15
Snack Time. Children help set up for snack by cleaning the tables, putting out the napkins and bite-sized treats and pouring the juice. Children also help clean up after they are done with their treat. We will celebrate a childs birthday with a snack provided by the parents. Many times throughout the school year we will celebrate holidays with a special snack.
11:15 - Dismissal
The groups return for more group and individual lessons and activities. They also enjoy walks, story time and various other activities.
Art
Each class completes one special art project per week. We also incorporate coloring, cutting, pasting and painting into the various activities the children participate in throughout the week.
Music
Once a week the school children enjoy approximately 30 minutes of music activities.
Outdoor Activities
Since we are located in a wild life sanctuary we make a point of enjoying the many trails, observing the wild life and watching the changes that occur throughout the year at the nature preserve.
Mrs. Walshs and Mrs. Ray s students take a couple of class trips to exciting and educational places.
Occasionally the parents are invited to a few special activities the children have at school. The EMS encourages and appreciates parent involvement in school activities.
The holidays in the EMS school calendar are similar to the Baking Ridge school calendar with minor differences.
